Our Founder: Leroy Schnathorst

When I was 14 years old I remember the Holy Spirt telling me during a church service that I was going to be a missionary in Africa. Now, 30 years later, I am answering God’s call to help the people of Kenya and reaching the lost here domestically in Iowa.

I founded Calming Waters to provide the most direct connection possible between those with resources and those who need them. I am committed to ensuring the recipients of our ministry receive supplies, both natural and spiritual, with minimal overhead expenses. By establishing this direct connection, my goal is to enable our supporters to walk this journey with us, to see the impact their giving is making, following our progress on our website or facebook page.  My prayer is for the Lord to multiply your blessing by allowing you to experience what He does through you in Africa by His miracle working power.

Our Mission Partner: Pastor Evans Mudanya

Pastor Evans Mudanya from Webuye, Kenya is a man who picks up his cross daily and surrenders to the lord.  His whole life is devoted to the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ that we read in Mark 16:15 - “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” I visited him in Kenya and was blessed to be able to speak to some of the kids he ministers to - 6,000 kids in five days at five different schools. That experiencing convinced me: There is no-one better suited to this work, or more deserving of our partnership, than Pastor Mudanya. 

Details about the Work:

In 2012 Pastor Mudanya started going into the Primary and Secondary schools preaching the gospel to the youth.  He currently has 20 schools he ministers to: 8 primary schools (4-8th grade) and 12 secondary schools (9-12 grade), totaling 31,500 students.  He alternates between the schools, visiting 10 a month, doing the best he can with what he has.  Not only does he minister to the kids spiritually, but he also donates everyday provisions: Mosquito netting, shoes, clothing, soccer balls, and women’s hygiene products, to name a few.  He also helps to pastor a church and organize community events - ranging from conferences to outdoor crusades. His dream is to open his own church to raise up disciples who will answer the call and further spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
